Officially launched in September 2024 after Techstars, Inframind was born from a meeting between co-founders Leo Jiang and Brian Sheil at an academic event in Cambridge. The pair quickly recognised the potential to combine their expertise in AI and civil engineering to solve one of the industry’s most pressing challenges: ageing and under-monitored infrastructure. By harnessing AI and a pioneering “inside-out” monitoring approach that combines LiDAR and ground penetrating radar to track structural deterioration, Inframind delivers the equivalent of MRI scans for bridges, tunnels, and buildings - turning infrastructure intelligence from a concept into a tangible, practical tool for everyday use.
Formerly JoltSynsor, the new name reflects this vision. “Infra” grounds the company in the industry it serves, while “mind” signals the intelligence driving its solutions. More than just a play on words, the name underscores the team’s belief in mindful engineering - where safety and reliability are non-negotiable, and infrastructure is treated with the same precision as healthcare.
The rebrand comes after a transformative year of research validation, industry traction, product development and support from early stage backers such as Fuel Ventures. Inframind has also begun building a loyal customer base, recognised and respected by industry professionals for its credibility and engineering-first approach. With AI still largely a buzzword in the infrastructure sector, Inframind is positioning itself as one of the first companies to bring both technical and engineering credibility to this untapped vertical, bridging the gap between advanced intelligence and everyday application.
Leo Jiang, Co-Founder of Inframind, says: “Over the past year, we’ve proven that embedding intelligence into infrastructure isn’t just possible - it’s essential. With this rebrand, we’re making clear that our focus is on bringing AI out of the abstract and into the everyday tangible reality of engineers, operators, and communities who depend on safe, resilient infrastructure.”
Brian Sheil, Co-Founder, added: “As civil engineers, we’ve seen firsthand the impact of structural deterioration and how stakeholders struggle to extract actionable information from their data. Our approach allows us to start a new conversation about infrastructure intelligence, which is one rooted in trust, precision, and real-world impact. This rebrand to Inframind signals that evolution, reflecting both our engineering foundations and the intelligence-driven future we’re building.”
Mark Pearson, Founder of Fuel Ventures and early backer of Inframind, said: “Inframind has the golden duo for a successful company in 2025 - deep technical expertise combined with a bold vision to transform a critical industry. Leo and Brian have built extraordinary momentum over the past year, and this rebrand reflects their ambition to lead the way in bringing AI into the heart of infrastructure. As they launch this new chapter, I look forward to seeing how they continue that momentum and cement their place in infrastructure intelligence.”
About Inframind
Inframind (formerly JoltSynsor) is an engineering intelligence company launched in September 2024 by Leo Jiang (MBA, Cambridge; ex-Wall Street investment professional and startup operator) and Brian Sheil (Associate Professor in Construction Engineering at Cambridge, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow). The company harnesses inside-out AI and sensor fusion, including LiDAR, to enable proactive infrastructure health monitoring - making safety routine, extendable, and intelligent across the engineering industry.
